Baby Blanket - Mitered Corners

It's time for a craft!

I love making cute little baby blankets for my friends and family. It's a fun little hobby that doesn't take too much time (usually!) I was invited to a baby shower and this time I decided I wanted to make a cute mitered corner blanket. My friend had given me a printout several years ago with instructions on how to do it. I also found some great tutorials online. I was able to easily complete everything except I couldn't figure out the instructions on how to do the actual corners!

Here is a photo of how this poor blanket sat for about a week - sitting there with floppy corners and all!

I decided to try what I thought should work because I couldn't figure out the real directions. The tutorials kept saying something about sewing/cutting at a 90 degree angle. However, the corners are a 45 degree angle. It wasn't logically making sense. So this is what I ended up doing.

I folded the blanket into a triangle leaving the floppy corners out.

I then took my ruler and marked along that edge where the corner will be for both corners. Then I folded the blanket the other way and marked the remaining corners.

I then sewed along that line to make my beautiful corners. I turned the blanket to make sure I was satisfied with the results. There were a few corners that I didn't love so I repeated the above steps, updated my markings and sewed along the new line until it was how I wanted it.

You'll be able to see if you need to correct the stitching because the corner won't lay flat.

When each corner was perfect (hehe) I cut the excess fabric off of each corner.

I wanted the blanket to lay flat so I sewed along the inside and outside of the border. This is a simple way to give it a little finishing touch.

Here are a couple of photos of the completed project!

I know this may not be the "correct" way to create these cute mitered corners, but it worked for me, and I hope this can help others who may be struggling with the same issue :)
